In a globalized world, management and leadership become more internationally oriented too. The different cultures around the globe do not have one universal management style and firms expanding into new geographical areas do not always realize this. This course takes a look at the transcultural gap and ways to bridge it.
Our colleagues from Rhodes University, South Africa will focus on questions like:
- Does global leadership really exist or is it a myth?
- Can a leadership style from one part of the world resolve conflicts that arise in other regions?
- What are the differences and similarities between Asian, African, Latin American, North American, and European leaders?
- What does it take to become a leader of the future?

Target group
Any student who is interested in (business) leadership in a global setting. The course is in English and interactive by nature therefore students are expected to have a good proficiency in oral and written communication.
Course aim
The aim of this course is to give an overview of different theories on (business) leadership, the influence of globalisation and culture, and leadership conflicts that might arise in an international setting. A selection of academic articles will be studied and discussed in class.
