In this course we will explore the relationships between architectural spaces, designed objects that give light and our emotional connection to both. The quality of light is often described with words usually reserved to identify human traits and characteristics; as if the light source would be a living organism.
There is a rather long and colorful tradition* of giving light and the sources of light, anthropomorphic value. It is naturally human to become emotionally connected with objects / spaces because we rationally (& irrationally) seek meaning all around us. Spaces of an architectural nature are embedded with meaning through their structure, program, and cultural context and without a doubt, by their quality of light.

Target group
This course is open to all students who are currently studying at a university of art and design or have a passionate interest in the world of design.
Course aim
We will examine some important spaces in Weimar, such as Henry van de Veldes Haus Hohe Pappeln and the main building of the Bauhaus-Universitt Weimar, for the quality of their light. In addition, we will look at slightly humbler structures such as the Schiehaus Weimar as well as the information kiosk/caf of the Bauhaus-Universitt.
