The course is part of the Cologne International Summer University, an intensive academic summer program combined with cultural activities directed to international students and students of the University of Cologne. Each course is complemented by a language and cultural introduction and a field trip to a company or institution.

The course "Meta-Analysis" combines lectures, hands-on tutorials, and computer exercises to cover not only the theoretical background, but to also provide practical experience in analyzing real meta-analytic datasets with various software packages.

The emphasis throughout the course is focused more on the application of the methods than the mathematical details. It focuses on the following topics: Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis; Calculating Effect Size and Association Measures; Equal-, Fixed-, and Random-Effects Models; Meta-Analytic Models with Moderators (Meta-Regression); Model Diagnostics and Sensitivity Analyses; Detecting and Examining the Influence of Publication Bias; Advanced Models (Multilevel and Multivariate Models) and Miscellaneous Topics.

Target group
Graduate business and economics majors/ minors (after one year of study).Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL ibt 96 or equivalent) is required.

Course aim
Researchers trying to summarize the constantly growing body of research in the social, natural, and health sciences are increasingly using a technique called meta-analysis. Meta-analysis encompasses an entire set of statistical methods for aggregating and comparing the results from several related studies in a systematic manner. The focus of this course will be on current methods and techniques for analyzing meta-analytic data. At the end of this course, students should have a thorough understanding of the methods used for meta-analyses and be able to carry out meta-analyses on a topic of choice.

After succesfully completing the programme, international students receive an academic transcript where the course title(s), the ECTS credits earned and the final grades appear on.

EUR 1100: The programme fee includes accommodation (in double room), public transportation ticket within and around Cologne, course materials, welcome and farewell event, language and cultural orientation, company visit, city tour, teambuilding event, wireless internet on campus, access to University's computer pools and libraries, access to subsidized food at the Universitys restaurants and cafs.

EUR 1400: The programme fee includes accommodation (in single room), public transportation ticket within and around Cologne, course materials, welcome and farewell event, language and cultural orientation, company visit, city tour, teambuilding event, wireless internet on campus, access to University's computer pools and libraries, access to subsidized food at the Universitys restaurants and cafs. The course is offered as part of the Cologne International Summer University (CISU). If you decide to participate at two sessions (4 weeks in total), the prize is EUR 1500 (double room) or EUR 2000 (single room).
