The development of speaking skills is a challenging part of the curriculum in foreign language education. Recent technological developments that support spoken communication like voice-chat, video webconferencing and voice-enabled, virtual worlds can help address related pedagogical issues such as student numbers and lack of authentic contexts in the modern language classroom.

This course combines hands-on training and theoretical sessions to familiarize participants with a number of ICT-applications & related activities and methodologies for computer mediated oral proficiency development. The focus is not so much on the technological aspects, but rather on the teacher competences involved in designing and moderating activities using a selection of tools and web applications relevant for networked and task-based language learning. Participants are actively involved and supported to develop - individually or in small groups - language activities and collaborative projects for use in their (future)teaching practice.
