The world seems to be changing faster and faster from the technologies available to us, to the increasingly global scope of our interactions. Moreover, the problems facing us as a global community seem to be growing ever more complex and serious. We believe that organisations groups of people who come together to accomplish a purpose hold an important key to these new questions and new solutions.

The field of organisational learning explores ways to design organisations so that they fulfill their function effectively, encourage people to reach their full potential, and, at the same time, help the world to be a better place. An organisation is said to be learning when it has a memory which can bring about the future it most desires. But, in the business community, learning is much more than just a way to create the future you want; in today's fast-paced, highly competitive work world, it can actually give organisations the edge it needs to survive, whether it's business lies within the private or the public sector.

The purpose of this programme is to introduce students to contemporary ideas and strategies about how organisations learn. For all the talk of learning amongst policymakers and practitioners, there is a surprising lack of attention to how organisations learn; how they manage change and how they become an 'organisation with a memory'. In order to start thinking about learning we need to make the simple distinction between learning as a product and learning as a process.

The programme will explore systemic thinking, team learning as well as offering an introduction to constellation workon organisations. Organisational constellations are a powerful and far-reaching method for exploring burning issues and entrenched patterns in organisations and communities. The constellating process draws on the embedded intelligence of a situation to reveal hidden dynamics in key areas such as leadership, conflict resolution, relationships between stakeholders or between founders and their successors, culture change, management of innovation, organisational restructuring amongst many others.

The course emphasises the practical application of the organisational learning theory, with students undertaking an action learning project in their own or another organisation. This course would also be of particular interest to knowledge managers, human resource managers, school principals, university administrators, and line managers with a strong focus in human resource and organisational development.
