The circulation in the atmosphere and in the oceans is at the heart of the climate machine. Geophysical fluid dynamics, dealing with the properties of flow in a rotating system, forms the core of the summer school. A systematic treatment will be presented, and numerous exercises will help to master the material.
There will also be a series of lectures on more specialised topics like chemical cycles in the climate system and their interaction with radiation, glaciers and climate change, coastal processes, ocean circulation and palaeoclimates, etc. Students will participate in small research projects on these topics and will report on the results.
