Plant-man Interaction and the Moving Plant: Science, Art and Intelligence

Imagine: plants that communicate with you and show their reactions to your presence! This is exactly what we will explore! Science and Art meet and we explore the possibilities and consequences of plants that not just patiently wait to be harmed, but take action and react to their enemies. In cooperation with the Brazilian artist Ivan Henriques we will work with the Plant-Machine. We will investigate different aspects of plant-man interaction (practical, ethical and aesthetical), as well as the basic background of the (electrical) plant signals and the plant-machine interaction device. The course will result in a joint publication.

Target group
This is a multidisciplinary course for all graduate students interested in any of the aspects mentioned in the course description. This course is also open for advanced bachelor students on a case-to-case basis.

Course aim
The aim of the course is to bridge different disciplines and to take part in an out-of-the-box adventure in which modern technology and science is used to explore fundamental concepts in plant-man interaction. The students will have learned to combine different approaches (art-science) and basic questions arising from these in a practical set-up and plan to test the different hypothesis in a scientific frame.
