Poisson 2012 is the 8th event of a series of biennial meetings on Poisson geometry and related topics. More information about the biennial meetings can be found here .Poisson Geometry lies on the cross road of Mathematical Physics and Geometry; it originates in the mathematical formulation of Hamiltonian mechanics and as the semiclassical limit of quantum systems; the field developed rapidly, stimulated by connections with a large number of areas, including mathematical physics, Lie theory, harmonic analysis, noncommutative algebra and quantization, quantum groups, singularity theory, differential equations and integrable systems, geometric mechanics and numerical methods, among others.
The aim of the summer school is to provide the participant with an introduction to Poisson Geometry (and related fields), as well as to present some of the more recent developments. The first week will consist of 4 minicourses (each consisting of 4 lectures and exercise classes): Poisson geometry- global aspects, Lie groupoids and multiplicative structures, Cluster Algebras and Compatible Poisson Structures, Poisson and symplectic geometry of moduli spaces of flat connections. The second week is an international conference, featuring twenty-five plenary speakers working on Poisson geometry and related areas.
Period
23-07-2012 - 03-08-2012 (2 weeks)
Target group
Students in the final years of their undergraduate studies, Master students, PhD students, young researchers. Background: basic differential geometry.
Course aim
The aim of the school/conference is to provide the participant with an introduction to Poisson Geometry (and related fields), as well as to present some of the more recent developments, and open problems. The first week will consist of 4 minicourses, while the second week is organized as a conference in the field.
