This course intends to give students a better understanding of the history and politics of the process of European integration. Within that context, students are also introduced to the the main EU institutions and some of the most prominent policies of the European Union today.

The course is divided in a number of different topics. First of all the history of European integration is looked at, followed by an examination of the composition, role and powers of the institutions in the European Union. Secondly, the course will examine the decision-making process as well as look at some of the main policy areas of the EU. Finally, the attitudes of the different Member States to the European integration process, the enlargement process and the possible future of the EU integration process will be discussed.

By the end of the course students will demonstrate the ability to:Learning objectives; History of European Integration and possible outcomes; European Commission; Council and the European Council; European Parliament; The EU decision-making process; The Court of Justice of the European Union; Some of the internal policies: Internal Market, the Economic and Monetary Union, the Common Agricultural Policy.; Some attention will also be devoted to 'European Citizenship'. ; EU Enlargement / Member States' attitudes; Theories of European Integration.
