Target group
Upper year (3rd/4th) bachelor students and beginning master students in the fields of biology, environmental sciences, earth sciences or related areas of study. Also for graduates who want to get more acquainted in plant community analysis. Basic academic knowledge in plant biology and experience with Excel is strongly recommended.
Course aim
The aim of this course is to obtain an understanding of the origin and development of Dutch landscapes, the development of vegetation patterns and the occurrence of plant species in relation to environmental factors. This will enable you to formulate research questions and make an experimental design, to analyse collected field data using different methods (a.o. making Braun Blanquet relevs), Multivariate analysis methods, and to draw conclusions from the results. At the end of the course, the student will be able make a statistically proper design for taking field samples, to analyse the field data, and to interpret the results in a landscape ecological perspective.
