The course is part of the Cologne International Summer University, an intensive academic summer program combined with cultural activities directed to international students and students of the University of Cologne. Each course is complemented by a language and cultural introduction and a field trip to a company or institution.
The course "Project Management" focuses on the following topics: Project Valuation, Project Initiation; Critical Path Analysis; Resource Constraints; Project Control; Lifecycle Management; Uncertainty Management; Risk Management; Ambiguity & Complexity; Iterations & Rework; Contracting.This course combines lecturers, case discussions and group work.

Advanced undergraduate business and economics majors/minors (after two years of study). Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL ibt 96 or equivalent) is required.
Course aim
In the course of their careers, contemporary managers will spend a significant amount of time either participating in or leading projects. Projects are frequently used as proving-grounds for high-potentials. The skills that are required in project management are often the very same attributes that are required for successfully managing a business.While every project is by definition unique, some concepts and tools in project management apply to a wide range of different types of projects.
The aim of this course is to equip students with these concepts and tools, and to develop them into successful project managers (and team members). The goal of this course is neither to further refine existing project-management specialists in their expertise, nor to specifically train students for Project Management Certification. Rather, the objective is to equip business generalists (i.e., any career concentration) with project management related skills that will be useful throughout their careers.With that aim in mind, the course will focus on broadly applicable concepts and methods and will cover both qualitative and quantitative aspects of project management.

6.0 ECTS creditsAfter succesfully completing the programme, international students receive an academic transcript where the course title(s), the ECTS credits earned and the final grades appear on.

The course is offered as part of the Cologne International Summer University (CISU). If you decide to participate at two sessions (4 weeks in total), the prize is EUR 1500 (double room) or EUR 2000 (single room).
