Restoration of streams, lakes and wetlands is an important tool in the management of our aquatic environment and for obtaining good ecological state. The course will describe the most important restoration methods applied in Denmark and examine the principles, mechanisms and prerequisites for their use.
Experiences and conclusions from restorations undertaken during the past 25 years will be presented and evaluated. During the course visits will be paid to localities where the restoration interventions were actually undertaken. Course offered by the National Environmental Research Institute, AU.

Target group
The participants must have a basic knowledge of freshwater ecosystems, for instance via the course aquatic ecology.
Course aim
At the end of the course the student should be able to: - describe and identify the background for undertaking restoration of streams, lakes and wetlands- describe the various restoration methods applied in Denmark and to summarize the experiences gained- explain and analyse the principles behind the applied restoration methods.- compare different restoration methods and explain their strengths and weaknesses- discuss and bring the use of different restoration methods into a perspective- reflect on the future use of restoration measures in freshwater ecosystems
