The "Scenario Thinking" course has a highly interactive character, with a focus on the practical use of scenario thinking concepts. The module offers two lectures, two workshops and two sessions with presentations by the students. It also involves an individual and a group assignment. Students are introduced to various scenarios about political, social and economic trends, and encouraged to develop these themselves.
Relevance: The recent financial crisis in the US and EU and the political turmoil in the Middle East highlight once more how difficult it is to predict economic and political changes. Although forecasts are still a popular concept for various organisations, such as financial market investors, scenarios have gradually become more popular since the 1960s. Scenarios are nowadays used by organisations in many industries such as natural resources, personal security and public transport. Therefore, scenario thinking skills have become a valuable asset in career development.
