The CESS-CR evolved out of the program for Community-Based Conflict Resolution (CBCR) based in Salzburg, Austria.
The first Central European Summer School for Conflict Resolution (CESS-CR) was held in 2001 in Loschberg, Austria. The following 5 Summer Schools were held in Salzburg-Aigen, at Kolleg St. Josef (2002, 2004, 2005, 2006) and Bildungshaus St. Virgil (2003).
Training is organized in two sessions of six workdays, for an advanced group of graduates of previous Summer Schools and a beginner group for those new to conflict resolution.
Participation is open to everyone, special emphasis is placed on inviting participants from central, east and south-east Europe. The last 6 Summer Schools included participants from Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Georgia, Ukraine, Nigeria, Great Britain, Russia, Lebanon, Nepal, Bhutan, Austria and Germany.
Dissemination of foundational principles & values pertaining to community-based conflict resolution.
Participants are prepared to reproduce conflict-resolving processes within diverse community contexts, including planning and organization, based on the 3-day Field Process model.
The development of original applications by participants, in teams or with a partner in appropriate community contexts, where fundamental context may or may not be apparent. Active initiation of projects is a precondition of participation in the summer school.
Every beginner participant is required to attach to the registration a letter of support for a follow-up community event, from a local sponsoring or partner organization.
Every advanced participant is required to attach to the registration a short documentation of the activities led or co-led since the last Summer School (field processes or selected CBCR processes).
