Set Design for Theatre

A great set can transform a stage production. This inspirational course takes you through the entire process of designing a theatre production. We'll help you analyse text, work with directors, and create designs for specific venues.You will discover how to develop set concepts, using sketches, theatre ground plans and elevations through to producing a scaled black box model. Our tutors will show you how to develop mood-boards, sketches, and sketch models in the lead up to making a scale model, which you prop, texture and colour.We'll introduce you to a range of digital techniques used by professional set designers such as Adobe Illustrator, laser cutting and Rhino 3D. You'll work with programmes such as AutoCAD and Photoshop to create stunning presentation boards and will also learn the fundamentals of lighting through storyboard rendering.Theatre visits We'll take you on study day trips to see a variety of important theatres, stage designs and performances. You'll also meet a world-renowned designer for an inspirational tutorial focusing on your design concept. On the trips you'll learn about the teams who make theatre productions happen - and record details to use in your scale model.

Target group
AUB Summer Courses are open to all those aged 17 or over at the time of taking the course. Our summer courses are attended by school leavers, university students and creative professionals wishing to learn new creative skills, enhance their current studies or change careers.
