Spanish or Castilian (espanol or castellano) is a Romance language in the Ibero-Romance group that originated in northern Spain and gradually spread in the Kingdom of Castile, evolving into the principal language of government and trade in the Iberian peninsula. It was taken most notably to the Americas as well as to Africa and Asia Pacific with the expansion of the Spanish Empire between the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries.
After completing this beginners' course, students can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. They will be able to introduce themselves and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know and things they own. Students will be able to interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
