The concept of sovereignty is a fundamental pillar of international and national law and our understanding of the nation-state - but what does it actually mean? What is sovereignty? In this course, we will consider the concept from a legal, philosophical and political perspective, tracing the developments of sovereignty in the national and international sphere and examining modern challenges to sovereignty such as humanitarian intervention and the relationship between member states and the European Union.
