Today the chief communication officer at a Fortune 500, multi-national corporation faces the challenges of uncertainty, a rapidly changing global economy, a revolution in communication channels fueled by the Internet, the impact of "big data" on privacy, and a substantially transformed understanding of what a 21st century corporation stands for.

This course investigates the specific leadership communication challenges that these forces have thrown at corporate leaders. Examining these forces and how they are interwoven should offer insights and strategies for students of the corporate communication discipline and business leaders to help them implement effective leadership communication as a strategic business asset in the contemporary global economy. This course focuses strategic leadership communication in a global corporate context. It explores, analyzes, integrates, and applies the theory, practice, and functions of leadership communication.

The combination of a theoretical understanding of how these forces influence corporate communication and practical guidelines for effective communication will be of value to communication and management graduate students. This intensive seminar is designed for the current (or aspiring) professional who creates and manages an organization's global communications. It focuses on leadership theory and strategic approaches to written, oral, and mediated communication, and includes a particular emphasis on problem solving and analytical techniques appropriate to global corporate environments.
