Summer School on Waste Management: Sustainable Landfilling and Final Sink

Waste management is experiencing a fast transition from landfilling to sophisticated recycling and waste to energy plants. The summer school aims to give students an overview of the most recent and advanced technologies developed for the management of sustainable landfills. Activities linked to this broad topic range from the setup of a landfill, to the operational management of the site, including the exploitation of the gas produced, to the aftercare and remediation. Participants will be able to analyze the management of an existing landfill during a full day site visit. By putting into practice what they learn during the class lectures, they will prepare and present a project or research hypothesis on how to improve the management of landfill.rnThe course duration is nine days. Students will attend lectures, participate in a field trip on Wednesday and discuss possible project developments in working group as well as present their research projects.rnSocial activities will be organised in the evenings.

Target group
Master students who have completed all of their required course work, PhD students and young researchers from any university and any discipline with an interest in waste management able to read and write fluently in English. Applicants familiar with these subjects and already working in private companies or public administrations are welcome.
