Summer School on Women, Peace and Security

This course is an initiative launched by Oxfam Novib in The Hague, in cooperation with Leiden University in The Hague, with the support of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.The course focuses on the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, known as UNSCR 1325. With this resolution the Security Council recognizes the imperative of women's active participation and inclusive processes for sustainable peace and security and remind member states of their responsibility to respect and implement women's and human rights according to international treaties. Resolution 1325 was followed by others (1820, 188.1889, 1960). But in spite of some positive changes practice is still far from full implementation. Women still face many obstacles for participation in peace processes, and impunity for violence against women is still widespread.
