Experience what it takes to do business successfully in a sustainable way. Focus on a series of Capita Selecta on Sustainability, zoom in on business life in Europe, and take your business competencies to the ultimate test: a real-life management game.

This course takes place in Biella, Italy (first three weeks) and Utrecht, the Netherlands (last two weeks).The course kicks off with a series of lectures offering various perspectives on sustainability, in themes like sustainable economics, architecture, politics, business, landscaping, tourism. Guest speakers professionally involved in these themes will provide students with a broad introduction of all the challenges and opportunities they have faced in the past and are still facing today. After this introduction students focus on dealing with these themes in a business setting.

The programme comprises two case studies. 'Trust in textile' focuses on the challenges the textile industry in Northern Italy faces with especially Asia taking over large parts of the production process. 'Bulb Business' focuses on the economical, social en geographical factors that favoured the highly successful flower industry in the Netherlands.The last week of the course offers the real-life experience of a management game on marketing.

Target group
The programme is especially designed for students coming from outside Europe. However, the topics covered will also be of great interest to European students. Starting from a broad theoretical background the programme offers a strong practical orientation. Participants should be able and willing to step outside the world of books into what theories imply for real-life situations. A study background in business, marketing and/or finance is convenient, enthusiasm and an open mind are necessary!



Course aim
The aim of the course is to introduce students to and deepen their knowledge of the important theoretical background needed to do business in a sustainable way. It aims to provide a transfer of this theory into a practical approach of business situations.
