Our International Business Summer School offers a varied and intensive programme of specialised studies in International Management and Economics in a Swiss environment. The Summer School is a two-week seminar, taught in English by a multinational team. The courses build on at least two years of business studies; they are academically challenging with a strong applied management focus. Interaction between students and lecturers is highly encouraged.
Lecturers from Switzerland and abroad are experts in their fields and experienced practitioners.Attractive cultural events will make the participants' stay an unforgettable experience. The programme features a guided tour of Basel as well as Swiss National day celebrations with fireworks and a special Swiss National day dinner; it includes day field trips to different companies and excursions to cultural and historical sites in the city and beyond.The School of Business provides extracurricular support for the participants. Accommodation is close to the campus and the historic city centre.

Target group
The programme is designed for international and Swiss Bachelor students. Participants need to be fluent in English (advanced level: European levels B2 written / C1 oral). A letter of motivation, an updated CV and a transcript showing the most recent grade point average are also required.
Course aim
Swissness in Action: Moving Goods and PeopleBy international comparison, Switzerlands economy is thriving and the country is ranked at top positions in most international economic surveys. This is reason enough for you to take a closer look at the Swiss way with a special focus on Basel, one of the most dynamic cities in Switzerland.
Module 1: Logistics in an international contextLogistics is one of the core topics in todays international economy. The course focuses on international logistics strategies and the special role of Basel as a hub for the Swiss market. It deals specifically with the business aspects within logistics and combines theoretical aspects with a practical perspective.
Module 2: Sustainable urban development This module analyses urban development from an economic perspective and includes the theme of sustainability, one of the burning issues in politics and management. A practical approach is applied to theoretical aspects leading to a comprehensive understanding of the subject.
Credits
6.0 ECTS credits
The two modules include contact hours, self-study time (pre-work and post-work) and company visits. The duration of the modules is two weeks. Our 2012 Summer School participants obtain 6 ECTS credits (or 3 US semester credits).
The ECTS credits are awarded for participation in the Summer School and a final paper, written after the Summer School: 4 ECTS credits for participation in the Summer School (or 2 US semester credits). 2 ECTS credits for the final paper (5,000 words) (or 1 US semester credit).On successful completion of the programme participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance along with an official Transcript of Records listing the ECTS credits achieved.
Course fee
CHF 2500: The programme fee of 2,500 Swiss Francs covers the tuition for the course (two modules), the organisation of all company visits, the cultural and social programmes, all transfers (except from and to the airport) and accommodation. Not included in the fee: transport to and from Basel, health insurance, visa costs, main meals, additional individual sightseeing trips and personal expenses.
