Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) involves teaching a subject through the medium of a second language. Learners acquire knowledge about the content of the subject and language at the same time. Whilst CLIL teachers are experts in teaching their subjects, teaching in a second language throws up additional challenges requiring new and different skills.

This course is aimed at stimulating (experienced) CLIL teachers and those who need to teach their course in English to reflect on their work and help them to develop and enjoy every improvement of their teaching. This interactive workshop will cover Activation skills and Classroom Interaction.Activating is an essential part of effective teaching:it prepares pupils for new learning experiences, enables them to make better connections to prior knowledge and helps them remember what they learn.

In CLIL, didactics need to be aimed at stimulating not just knowledge and experience, but also the language. In this workshop you will think of ways to do this. We will discuss examples of and reasons for activating activities and ideas for motivating students to use English. In the second part of this course we will look at the ways in which teachers can best involve all their learners by:

- critically re-thinking the classroom

- translating theory into practice

- working in teams on classroom conversations

- reflecting, evaluating and sharing good practice
