Summerschool BioSCENTer 2013TechWatch4BIOS (Biosciences, Biomedicine, Bioscience Engineering, Bioinformatics):Progress in biology and biomedicine is technology driven with data being produced by specialized imaging and microscopy techniques, single molecule analysis and NMR, as well as 'systems' and 'omics' approaches (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, ...), supercomputing and bio-informatics.

Each of these technologies is evolving rapidly, which in itself implies a challenge for active scientists to stay up-to-date. Moreover, scientific progress is most expected when different technologies are combined in one and the same scientific or clinical endeavor to obtain a 'multi-modal' picture of the biological or biomedical problem. The latter represents an even bigger challenge for scientists because they are confronted with a problem of heterogeneous data-integration.

Target group
The course is intended for MA/MSc and PhD students. However, postdocs and even established researchers who want to get initiated in or updated about the new technologies that drive biology and biomedical research are also welcome.

Course aim
TechWatch4Bios provides a birds eye perspective on several rapidly evolving technologies, including supercomputing, deep sequencing & genomics, proteomics & metabolomics, mass spectrometry (structure identification), NMR, crystallography, nano-biotech, electron & atomic force microscopy, transcriptomics, molecular small animal imaging center, bioinformatics, imaging from single molecules cells and small animals, viral vectors, optogenetics.As part of the summer school program, 3 unique workshops for career development
