At the start of the summer of 2011, the Faculty of Geosciences offers prospective bachelor students an opportunity to study different topics in geography, earth, environmental and innovation sciences. Central theme during this one week lasting programme will be 'the Dutch Delta', focusing on challenges and opportunities in the Rhine-Meuse delta area: flood risk, river management, mobility in the river area and innovative solutions.
The course will consist of lab visits, small workshops, as well as lectures on specialized areas of current research and (of course) an excursion to the delta area.

Target group
Secondary school students in the Netherlands and across the world, both in international schools as well as ordinary secondary schools, with keen interest in Geosciences. Students accepted to a BSc programme at the Faculty of Geosciences for a start in September 2011 will also be invited to participate.
Course aim
The aim is to provide prospective students with a proper understanding on what the current developments in the fields of geography, earth, environmental and innovation sciences are, which open questions are addressed by modern research as well as how these geosciences fit into the larger picture of society.
