The Impact of the Global Financial Crisis on the Development of the European Integration

The aim of the course is to provide students with a general overview of the origins of the current economic and political crisis, and to analyse the responses and the actions of the Members States and the EU to avoid disintegration.

The course deals with the emerging new economic governance system of EU, examines the possibilities of a fiscal union, an economic union, a banking union, a transfer union, a political and a federal union. The process raises the question how the concept of legitimacy may apply, and how the decision making and the legal framework of the union should change to establish a viable 2.0 version of the EU.
