The course on 'The Law on Armed Conflicts and Military Operations' covers the traditional public international law on the use of force (jus ad bellum) and international humanitarian law (or as more often referred to, the law of armed conflicts, jus in bello) and some of the various branches of international and national law and regulation that apply such as the status of forces (status-of-force-agreements), the status of humanitarian and civilian actors and human rights law.

During the course the student will be introduced to and gain confidence with the structure, principles and rules of the Law of Armed Conflict and Military Operations, including the Law of Armed Conflicts/International Humanitarian Law) and the end of the course must be able to explain, discuss and apply the main principles and rules and relate them to concrete case scenarios.

Course aim
The aim of the course is that during the course the students gain:

1) a profound knowledge of the Law of Armed Conflict and Military Operations, as described below,



2) a reasonable knowledge of the international concepts, principles and rules on the Law of Armed Conflict and Military Operations,

3) ability to explain and discuss legal problems and issues in international conflict scenarios

Course fee
EUR 0: Students on a bilateral exchange programme do not have to pay. Freemovers are obliged to pay participation fees while tuition fees only apply to freemovers from countries outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland.
