The single-minded concentration on Utilitas (utility) and Firmitas (stability) in architecture and urban design over the past decades has given way to a desire for more beauty and atmospheric moments. A new desire for more beauty and quality of life in cities has been awakened!
Two questions follow from this: what should aesthetically beautiful, functionally useful and, not least, sustainable public spaces look like? And, what criteria and models should we draw on when planning, building and designing such spaces? Today's architects and urban designers must reclaim the atmospheric competency that was once inherent to the profession! Atmospheric tempered Urban Design is more than ever the art of engendering an urban quality of life.

Target group
The course is aimed at students and soon to-be architects, planners, engineers, those working in housing and regeneration, and in general all who have the beauty of our cities at heart and want to extend their skills into the crucial field of urban design.
Course aim
In addition to teaching students how to perceive atmospheres, this course will focus on how to create atmospheres and help students gain competence in atmospheric design.
