Follow the steps of the Vikings and discover a fascinating period of European history: During the Viking Age (c. 700 - 1050 AD), Scandinavians suddenly enter the scene of the world known at that time. They were to leave their mark all over Europe and beyond, and contributed in shaping the world we live in today.
We will examine Viking Age Scandinavia as an interdisciplinary field of study, concentrating on archaeology and textual sources. Subjects include various aspects of Viking society and will include lectures by leading Viking scholars. In addition, we offer a range of practical exercises, 'hands-on' demonstrations of original artifacts, as well as museum visits and excursions. Target group
You must hold a bachelor's degree (or a minimum of 180 ECTS in your study programme) in archaeology, religion studies, history, scandinavian studies/norse literature or related disciplines.
Course aim
In the evaluation, graders assess to what extent the student:has a thorough knowledge of the core material is able to identify and present an analysis of an issue based on the core materialcritically assesses the key theses in a complex of issuesdemonstrates the ability to question data pattern results in a source-critical manner and assesses the consequences of the proposed interpretation.
