This book is an effort to tell International Relations students and general readers in a single, reasonable and concise volume what the European Union is now in terms of institutions, liabilities and rights, how it will be able to improve interconnectedness.

We have tried here to craft a new, more the matic approach that preserves the central elements of a larger text, but presents a clearer and more readily accessible story about something that, although real, is still abstract, at least for the great majority of the population. In addition to the central themes, the student will find a collection of techniques examining major issues which, sometimes, may substitute or increment interpretative debates.

The book is structured with a vocabulary work acquainting the student with the specific vocabulary, then various lexical activities meant to make the words / syntagms familiar in the discourse; a nutshell of grammar issues ends each unit. Together, we hope, these elements will serve to introduce the reader to enough different approaches to a reality which will be hopefully implemented on the 1 st January 2007.
