World economic crisis… A global financial meltdown… The stock market goes down every day and the panic is spreading throw the world with the speed of light. Just a few things survive in this vertigo and can maintain their stability. One of these things is a document written in the XVIIIth century that is still considered one of the most important “law of a land”. This is the Constitution of the United States. It had changed during the years, but its original text was never modified because the freedoms that the Constitution provides are universal and the document was created “by the people and for the people”. This document is one of the first laws that guaranteed human liberties and made everyone equal before the law. This is the reason why this subject is always actual.

Two years ago I got the great opportunity to study the American Constitution. I found it in a local newspaper and I decided to read it. From the first article I realised that I was reading one of the best document that the human has ever written. It took me a long time to understand the ideas behind the words, to read the true meaning between the lines and to appreciate its true value. The Constitution is like a puzzle the for more than two centuries justices, scholars and people on the street are trying to solve.

Living in USA, I observed how the Constitution guides the nation. It plays a role in virtually every aspect of life in the United States. It makes every citizen to obey the same rules and to enjoy the same liberties. This is one of the reasons why United States is a world power.

The Constitution has seven articles and 27 amendments (additions to the Constitution). Many bright minds of that times, like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, contributed to its creation. It is the oldest Constitution that is still in use. Originally it was written on four pages. The original document is kept on public view at the National Archives building, in a case designed to provide the greatest possible protection against decay.
