AFROCENTRISM is a movement in the '80s and '90s. Its goal is to study, analyze and interpret the history and worldview from an Afro-American perspective, and emphasizes the importance of the African race taken as a single group with its culture and tradition, the main focus being on them. The white European western civilisation and culture has to be stripped of its central and dominant role.
The activities of Afrocentrism contain a wide intellectual and political spectrum. For example, the theory of Professor Leonard Jeffrey introduces two terms: 'ice people' and 'sun people', these two being categorized in different personality structures. Ice people are considered to be the European- American descendants of people who lived in the Ice Age. They are seen as barbarian warriors, materialistic and egoistic. Sun people are considered to be the Africans, the Asians, and the natives of Latin America and the Caribbean, who, opposite to the ice people, are humanistic, compassionate, considerate and kind.
Another thesis, regarding to the Birth of the Land, considers that the human evolution didn't happen in Greece, as the Eurocentric and racist history-telling of the 18th and 19th century states, but in Egypt – Africa, populated at the time by black Egyptians.
Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr., president of the Institute of Afro-American Studies at the Harvard University, warns that as long as the destiny of the person depends of one's race and blood, Afrocentrism is in danger to become Ethnical Isolation.
