The Air Force Academy is a high-level military training institute which is directly subordinated to The Air Force Staff and whose mission is to train the necessary officers for the Romanian Air Force.

It is located in the town of Brasov, in a historical area.


Based on the Government Decision no. 616, in 11 August 1995, the Air Force Academy was established and given the name of Henri Coanda, in the honor of the great scientist who invented the jet plane.

The Air Force Academy "Henri Coanda" is continuing the Air Force Military Institutes "Aurel Vlaicu”, the Radar Military Institute "Avram Iancu” and the Missiles and Antiaircraft Defense Institute "General Bungescu”, whose traditions began, as follows:

April 1,1912 The first military air force school was established at Cotroceni, by the High Decree no. 1953 on March 27, under the command of the Air Force Major Ion Macri, being one of the first 5 institutions of this kind in the world;

December 10, 1939 The first Antiaircraft Artillery Officers School was established in Bucharest, shortly after the 2nd World War started,under the name of "The Military School for the Artillery Officers against Aircraft"

December 1, 1952 The first school for radar officers was established in Sibiu.
