The University of Pitesti is a young, dynamic, modern and flexible institution of high education.

It offers large educational possibilities to the young people from Romania and from other regions in the world.

The priorities of the University of Pitesti are directed towards the development of a high quality scientific research activity, the training of the young people as future high specialists, able to find a proper job in the Romanian and European labor market, which becomes more and more saturated and demanding.

Among the priorities, we also mention the large international collaboration that our university developed through a series of partnerships, projects and programs financed by the European Community.

Our target is to develop in Pitesti a business oriented university, a university deeply rooted in the everyday reality, a university that strongly interferes with the social-economic sector by offering its assistance in finding the correct solutions to the numerous problems this sector is facing at present.

Therefore the University of Pitesti is determined to brilliantly play its part and fulfill its mission in the society and to offer a chance to every young individual for his or her future.

The University of Pitesti represents the best chance for you to prepare your successful professional future!

The Romanian economy has made efforts to establish a market economy since 1989. Economic restructuring has been moving slowly, but the current Government is committed to economic restructuring and stabilisation, while combating poverty and increasing public spending, including spending on educational and training. The PHARE VET Reform project, which was completed in 1998, has prepared the framework for a better aligning of the Romanian economy with EU standards.

The University of Pitesti is situated in a heavily industrialised region of Romania (114 Km N-V from Bucharest). Although here, in Romania, VET is delivered through specialised state schools, the University of Pitesti has integrated into its own structure a certain number of colleges, which are delivering VET. It also has a parallel structure of Continuous Professional Development called "Muntenia Training Centre" which has a large curricular flexibility. This department also delivers VET (for the moment in the following areas: utilisation of a PC; administration/secretariat; PC programming; bookkeeping). In the last years, the University of Pitesti is making desperate efforts to build an own structure able to implement concepts, methods and techniques of ICT learning. Thus, it can be said that with great sacrifices induced by an extremely reduced budget, there have been purchased a number of devices. But the University is still in the situation to be not able to apply "on line" the ICT techniques with which it has already been "in touch" by different means.

The University of Pitesti has a very well trained staff.

The University of Pitesti has a Pedagogical Department, which is responsible for the training of the trainers for educational system.

By means of a non-profit foundation, created by the Univerity of Pitesti, a network has been created. This network interconnects the University of Pitesti with the main employers in the local economy agents such as: the Motorcars Building Plant "Dacia-Renault"of Pitesti, the Refinery of Pitesti, the Institute for Nuclear Research, the Footwear Factory, the Commercial Bank, the Romanian Bank for Development.

Also, the University of Pitesti is a strong educational factor for the SME in the region. These are usually searching its support in solving their economical, technological or managing problems.

The structure of the University of Pitesti related to the faculties being part of it, is the following:

1. Faculty of Sciences;

There are also four colleges (short term studies - 3 years).

The University of Pitesti has over 700 people as teaching staff and administrative personnel, and around of 12000 students.

Dissemination

In collaboration with the Ministry for National Education, University of Pitesti represents a strong dissemination factor at local, regional and national level for the project''s findings within Romania.

The University of Pitesti being a very well placed university, into an important economic area, is thus very proper to implement and to promote the project, despite the current economical crisis in Romania.

Also, because of its high quality staff and of its own institutional framework, it can become a macro-laboratory in which to be tested the outcomes of the project.

The multiple external co-operations carried out through programs such as TEMPUS, SOCRATES and other bilateral programs, has helped our teachers to understand the realities of the EU''s systems. This local base, in the context of national developments, will ensure that the University is well placed to make a significant contribution to this project.
