The University provides education in Finnish, Swedish and English. Three of its seventeen undergraduate degree programmes are in English and three are offered in Swedish.
There are approximately 3,500 students enrolled and a staff of 250 members. The staff, degree programmes and student services all work together to provide an extensive range of studies that offer an unbeatable combination of quality education in one of the liveliest student cities in Finland.
The University’s strategic focus is on in-depth knowledge of the energy and other industries, SME entrepreneurship and business competence and welfare services. Internationalism, multilingual education and strong ITC expertise feature in all focus areas.
VAMK operates autonomously under the administration of the City of Vaasa. General administration is managed by the Rector and the Board of Directors. Coordination and the development of operations are managed by the Rector and the Management Group.
The international dimension plays an essential role in the everyday learning experience at VAMK and promotes the multicultural perspective that is so crucial in the diverse and globalizing society of today.
Studies at a Finnish University of applied sciences provide graduates with a higher education degree and practical professional skills. An essential part of the degree programmes at VAMK is the practical training periods that provide students with ample opportunities to apply theory in practice.
Studies last from three-and-a half to four years. A degree programme comprises theoretical and professional studies, practical training in the field of study and a Bachelor’s thesis.
